2md Place: Safe-Rider Application – a system in which women who are vulnerable to sexual violence in Asia can share their planned route, and at the click of a button, send an SMS alert to a predetermined support circle in case of need.

 

3rd Place: Smart Off -Grid Management Application – an app that allows people to report their expected energy-use patterns for the coming days to energy authorities, with information allowing for more effective and efficient allocation of energy resources.

 

Start Up Farm – an all-in-one kit of various farming technologies and applications to assist farmers in the developing world. For example this may include an app that can monitor aquaponics farms (food production systems that combine conventional aquaculture with hydroponics in a symbiotic environment) and provide critical information such as water pH and temperature.

 

Doctor Wizard – an easy-to-use platform, in which people with limited access to medical facilities, can input basic information and get both advice and referrals to nearest care options from remote doctors.

 

NutriMom – an app that can answer basic questions and provide nutritional information to help educate mothers and pregnant women in Tanzania on what foods and nutrients they should eat during pregnancy, breastfeeding and child rearing.

 

Sharing Children Stories – a network of worldwide parents, which allows for the sharing of children stories and an app that can read inputted stories to children of parents with limited literacy.

 

Location Based Disease – an app that can help identify disease outbreaks via control centers, which can analyze inputted information and respectively allocate medical products and health providers on the ground.

 

Safer Medicine – an app that allows for the monitoring and verification of prescriptions and drugs, by a) allowing doctors to allocate 8-digit prescription codes that patients can take to the pharmacy, thus regulating the 1-prescription – 1-drug system, and b) allowing patients to report adverse drug reactions.

 

Twitter based SMS- allows people with no access to smart phone to participate in Twitter via SMS

 

Online Trade – a system that allows for African inter and intra-national trade, thus expanding income opportunities for people often excluded from wider markets.

 

Barter App – a system that allows villages to report what product or cash amount they will accept as payment for providing travelers a place to stay.
