Connecting the Solomon Islands

The Need

Solomon Islands is a Developing Nation that established Diplomatic Relations with Israel in 1989, two years after Solomon Islands independence. These group of Islands that was named after King Solomon [A Hebrew King] by a Spanish Explorer Avro de Mendana in around 1800's.

I am certain that Solomon Islands as a developing country with a population of around 600,000 people can greatly improve, sustainable and reach economic prosperity if we can benefit from Israel technology through joint ventures. The Oceania region is the largest area of the world that is yet to be explored and there are major opportunities that can have larger return to investors if they invest now.

Solomon Islands is a group of Islands – Nine larger onces plus a thousands of smaller Islands. We have two [2] major telecommunication companies operating on the Islands with limited internet and mobile coverage. This is slowly improving as telecommunication towers increases. There is a huge challenge in reaching majority of populations/schools/Hospitals/local governments as they are separated by the ocean- linking them to the current technologies that are being enjoyed by the world population. I would like if you would look at an application that would create effective communication/ internet/ video connecting the Islands. Solomon Islands has an ongoing MOU with Israel but we on the Islands are yet to witness Israeli technologies demonstrated or utilized in our part of the world in enhancing development for countries that are lacking in basic technology - IT that supports connectivity from village to village, Island to Island and the country to the entire world.

Moreover, features that include a cell phone that can float and at the same time waterproof would be great as many tourist and Islanders lose their cell phones – falling in to the ocean when traveling between Islands, regular boat sinkings during bad weather such as strong winds & even cyclones or during outings/diving etc. This is a major risk for those population that live and uses the ocean as a livelihood. Potential

Technological Solutions

Develop a mobile phone that is powered by renewable energy source, can float and be waterproof given that energy is a difficulty on these Islands and that water poses major phone damage and loss. Organisation:Israel Consulate, Honiara, Solomon Islands.
